Since June 15th, 2023, Google has made this new function available to everyone. This link generates exciting new options to improve your website’s operation and revenue.
You must take a few simple steps in order to set up this connection:
Step 1: Prerequisites for Connecting AdSense to GA4
There are two crucial prerequisites before you start:
Permission: You should be authorised to use Google AdSense and Google Analytics 4 respectively.

Step 2: Google Analytics 4
On your website, make sure Google Analytics 4 is correctly installed. You may use my tutorial on how to install GA4 on your website if you haven’t already.
Once you have these prerequisites in place, you’re ready to proceed to the linking process.
Linking AdSense and Google Analytics 4
To link your Google AdSense account with GA4, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Google AdSense account.
- Navigate to “Account” -> “Access and Authorization” -> “Google Analytics Integration.”
- Click on the “+New Link” from the menu.
- Choose the relevant GA4 property.
- Click “Create Link.”
Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re Google AdSense and GA4 accounts will be successfully linked. Within the next 24 hours, GA4 will start receiving data from your Google AdSense account.
Working with AdSense Data in GA4
The integration between Google AdSense and GA4 introduces a range of new dimensions, metrics, and events that provide valuable insights into your ad performance. After the 24 hours, your GA4 property will automatically track the following events:

ad_query: | Records ad requests, crucial for merging GA4 and AdSense data. |
These new events bring along additional dimensions and metrics, including:

Ad unit exposure: | Measures the time users are exposed to ads. |
Publisher ad clicks: | Tracks AdSense clicks. |
Publisher ad impressions: | Record impressions for AdSense. |
Total ad revenue: | Summarise all advertising income, including AdSense and other advertising income. |

Within Google Analytics 4, there are two methods to get at these insights: through default reports and GA4 Explore.
Google Analytics 4 has a default in-built report to see the performance of the ads on your website. You can access it in Reports -> Monetisation -> Publisher ads.
